![]() This is a first semester calculus-based engineering mechanics course that uses the modern Matter and Interactions curriculum, which emphasizes four fundamental principles that form the basis of science and engineering: momentum, energy, angular momentum, and entropy. THIS COURSE may be used to fulfill three hours of the Natural Science and Technology (Part I or Part IIāCORE component 030 or 031) component of the university core curriculum and addresses the following four core objectives established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board: communication skills, critical thinking skills, teamwork, and empirical and quantitative skills. For the Discussion Sessions, two persons (or more) in each group of four persons should bring a laptop. NOTE: Before attending a Tuesday Discussion Session, all students should download python 2.x and vpython from on their laptop, home computer, or university computer. The Discussion Sessions are designed to strengthen understanding of the fundamental principles and their applications. The Discussion Sessions are led by Orrin Shindell with the assistance of Venkat Tirumala.
